Why Email Marketing Beats Social Media Marketing for B2B Purposes

People say that social media is the key to the future. I agree that social media is good and it should be used to market your business. But social media shouldn’t be prioritized as compared to email marketing.  If you disagree with me I’ll tell you five reasons why email marketing is STILL better than social media.

1. NUMBER OF USERS

Back before social media platforms, we already have email accounts. Platforms like Facebook even ask your email to verify the user. This being said email subscribers have 400% more user accounts than any social media platform Facebook, Squidoo, Twitter, etc. That’s a whopping 3.8 billion.

If you can imagine a sack of grain (100 cups of rice) is the totality of emails sent daily. Facebook shout outs, Twitter tweets and other social media platform posts would amount to a half cup of rice in total.

Social Media collective posts totals to just 0.4% of emails that are sent away daily and that doesn’t even include spam. Every web search made on every search engine every day equals 1% of email traffic each day. Many marketers are so busy chasing the latest fads that they don’t even have any clues how to capitalize on it.

Most People say what’s ancient is obsolete — since email, being ancient and “useless”, must be superseded by newer gimmicks like social media. Ordinary People say “No one uses Email Marketing nowadays” or “I tried Email Marketing but it didn’t work.”

In reality, Keen marketers find Email Marketing vital not only to the company’s business efforts but also to effective marketing and sales structures due to the volume of subscribers email can reach.


2. BEST PERSONAL CHANNEL FOR B2B

Now people might be thinking, Ok so email users have 400% more users than social media platforms combined. What now? I’d rather shoot with a magnum pistol which fires at small amount of targeted market or specific people than to fire a machine gun that blasts away countless bullets not hitting anything.

There is a truth to that. But I’ll share you the good part, Email Marketing isn’t a gun that randomly spreads its ammunitions, it has BOTH features of firing precisely and fires at a lot of targets. In short, it’s both quantity and quality.

“NO WAY FACEBOOK IS THE BEST WITH FOCUSED MARKET!”

Umm... No it isn’t. First of all, go back to my number 1 reason which is Number of Users. A lot of people don’t use Facebook. If you are looking for older targets you’ll be having a hard time optimizing it because most of these old audiences prefer good old fashion letter writing which means the “ancient” email system.

Another thing is that in the vast majority of situations, business entrepreneurs do not go to Facebook for a one on one personal messaging conversation. Possibly for startup businesses targeting B2C (Business to Consumer), these people spam and use Social Media Platforms to feature their products. Not only will consumers blacklist you they will be irritated for shoving your products in their faces and wasting their time. Which most business professional don’t do. Serious business people open Gmail or Outlook or whatever, and bang out an email.

What’s funny is that if you have tried doing this to random consumers and they have agreed to let you talk about your product more then you must have said “Please email me at imgood@hypocrasy.com.”

Email is always the best b2b media channel. Take note of that.


3. BEST BUSINESS MEDIUM

A lot of businesses use social media platform for reaching out to people. But when it comes to creating or strengthening relationships, the most mature or professional way is through Email Marketing.

Would you rather use a single platform to talk to your customers or would you like to use your resources on various channels that don’t even have a hint of professionalism? I am not discouraging you to not use other channels like social media marketing but you shouldn’t make them a priority than using Email Marketing.


4. BEST ATTENTION GRABBER


Social media like Twitter posts something on the news feed for a promotion a consumer has been waiting for is easily missed due to series of posts or tweets from hundreds of people consisting your family, friends and subscribed users. On the other hand, Email messages are in every email user’s mailbox. It is always there and it grabs the attention of the user which they may or may not like it. Either way it’s seen by the user and it doesn’t just leave your inbox.

Assuming your offer is eye catching, people would want to read your email. If not it will be thrown to the trash or spam. Either way you had caught their interest.

Research shows that people who find eye-catching articles or propositions tend to stick the company or the sender’s name and will look forward to open their other email messages more every time they visit their mailbox. If you can get into that area then you as an Email Marketer will have the user’s attention.


5. BEST MEDIUM FOR TRANSACTIONS

Customers will be in a buying mood when they are buying things through email. If you look at Facebook, advertised products are there and a user might hit the “like” or “follow” button but it doesn’t shift them into the paradigm of buying.

With Email Marketing, you can program consumers to expect promotions while concurrently letting them learn about your product’s value for a cycle of time. Consumers will not only anticipate offers, they will possibly want the products (as a result of the “programming”). Email Marketing also has the capability to make efficiently endless contacts and is more likely to grasp these potential buyers at time when they’re ready to buy.
